April Allison suddenly found herself wrenched from her cozy privileged life when Carlton Stanton had her father murdered and then took over her father’s silver mine. Trying to flee she was thrust into a relationship with a young man building his life as a rancher in a remote but lush land in Colorado. Her journey to Oregon delayed by her broken carriage, April was confronted at Mark’s home with the mundane household chores for which she had never been trained.
Throughout her youth, April’s mother’s insistence that servants were there to serve her prevented April from learning the simple activities every woman learned from childhood. April now felt totally worthless when called upon to do these everyday tasks. Her education at “Finishing School” had instilled a deep distrust of men which imposed itself toward Mark who felt April was an unwanted intrusion into his life. But there was something different about this man. What made him act so honorably and respectfully toward her in the midst of being so inconvenienced?
With so much of what April had been taught being called into question, one thing remained unchanged….she, and the one person she was beginning to trust, were now in danger for their lives. Stanton and his paid ruffians were pressing in to get what they wanted. How was April to get the help and protection she needed so she could safely reach her final destination? And what was this yearning which contradicted so much of what she had been taught, as well as her plan of escape? Was she prepared to risk everything she had ever known for an uncertain new future?
