In spite of the clarity of Christ’s Great Commission, Christian discipleship has been tragically ignored, misunderstood, mis-guided and neglected for centuries. What has passed for discipleship in most cases falls far short and off the track of the clear intent of Christ’s command. Instead of teaching Christ-followers to consistently live out all of His teachings, we have focused on doctrine, theology, and entertaining preachers. Christ-followers are still well-informed non-doers of Christ’s teachings and example. The general criticism that Christians are not very much like Christ still falls unheard on our ears. Instead of learning a new way of life under Christ, Christians are molded to be well-churched and faithful participants of a plethora of Church activities.
Recently, churches are talking more about discipleship, spiritual formation and transformation but there is little unity in what it means or how to go about it. We still don’t have discipleship correct, and yet discipleship is what is most lacking and most needed in today’s Christian experience. Much of what is proposed in just warmed-over versions of what has been tried in the past. We are walking in circles which is the certain sign of being lost.
Resulting from extensive study of the Scriptures and tradition, this book asserts and explains that true, Biblical discipleship can and must be recovered and reestablished, but it will take courage and resolve by the Church to correct the mistakes and take the right path. The instructions are indeed laid out in the Scriptures. True discipleship is for every Christian, it is a function of grace-by-faith, and it does work! We must recover true Biblical discipleship! Only then will the Church become strong and healthy as we await the return of the King!

Brian Burson is now retired and lives with his wife in the northern front range of Colorado. He received complete formal training for pastoral ministry at a respected Bible College in the U.S. He has devoted his life to Bible teaching, spiritual formation and discipleship in various Evangelical churches. Dissatisfaction with traditional and trending discipleship concepts launched him into extensive research and study of both Scripture and tradition, resulting in this breakthrough book.
