One late spring afternoon I was sitting on the patio overlooking a small lake behind my home. I noticed that several little children were tossing rocks into the water. Ordinarily I wouldn’t have noticed this, except the Holy Spirit called my attention to the rocks hitting the water and how each rock caused ripples to go out in a seemingly endless pattern. “What does it mean?” I asked after a while of contemplation.
The Holy Spirit very quietly answered me and said, “That’s what personal evangelism is.” Every stone tossed into that muddy lake was the love of God being cast out by His people. Each ripple represented the effect the love, kindness, compassion, faithfulness, peace, and grace of God had on this sin-filled world. The ripples went out further and further. You touch a life today, and that life touches another life, and so on ….
