Where it is true that “no one has ever seen God as He is”, Pope Benedict XVI assures us, “God is not totally invisible to us; He does not remain completely inaccessible”. Like the reflection of the mountains, sky and glacier seen in the placid water of Shoup Bay, Alaska, God’s presence is reflected in our surroundings and circumstances. His image can be indistinct and imperfect, but God is with us (Isaiah 7:14/St. Matthew 1:23, 28:20/2nd Corinthians 3:18).
